Setting:
The story took place at the Oriental Plaza in Johannesburg.
Plot:
The short story "The Silk Scarf " is all about Mrs Nebo. She was a wife of a Foreign Affairs Minister in the new government to be established, Mr Clive Nebo. She was ver rich. One day she went to the Plazza for shopping and she was accompanied by her friend Margaret and the two bodyguards. They bought alot of staffs. She bought an Indian dress that she saw on a dummy.
They went to other shops looking for a scarf tht will best match the dress. They came to Moghul Boutique wher she found a Silk Scarf, that was costing a hundred and ten rands and the salesman told her that he will leave out the tax. She didn't have enough money. She was short short with fifteen rands. She asked the man to pay with a cheque but the man refused as there was a rule that, only cash can be accepted. Mrs Nebo found this disrespective and felt offended that the man didn't know who she was. They started arguing and Mrs Nebo's friend Margaret was the one talking too much, causing te dispute as she's trying to deffend her friend and not respecting the salesman. Atlast, the shop owners decided to buy the scarf for Mrs Nebo and present it to her as a gift. She smiled cheerfully, thanking the traders, turned to Mr Sakur and threatened him that people like him will have no place in he new democratic South Africa.

The main character in this story is Mrs Nebo.
She is a wife ofForeign Affairs Minister, Mr Clive Nebo. She was of medium height, smoothed-skinned complexion pampered by beauticians in Sandton salons. She's is a very rich woman. She firm herself more.

Through the Tunnel
Setting: It took place at a certain beach on an island during summer.
Plot: Dorris Lessing uses setting and complex characters that discovering one's identity can be a truly harsh experience. Jerry is just eleven and he is stuck between being a child and an udult. He sees boys swimming through an underwater tunnel. Even though the tunnel is so long that he could easily drown, he decided to swim through it. The protagonist, Jerry wanted acceptance from his peers and to be in control of his life. He learned that identity is given to you by those around you. You can't give it to yourself. Jerry's peers gave him the feeling of acceptance and that he was grown up.
Main character: Jerry is the main character. He is a small 11 years old boy. He was his only mother's son. He was a good swimmer. He liked to be respected and honored. He is an achiever.
